Finally Twitter Lifts My Suspension After Two Weeks....

Repost Of Twitter Reply........This is in response to my two week suspension for "suspicious" activity on my Twitter account. Thank goodness I am back up and running........er, tweeting.

"At some point, the link that you had put into your web or bio spot on your Twitter profile or an update you'd sent was classified by either Google or Firefox (or both) as having some form of malware attached to it. This means that most likely your website (or the website you linked to) was compromised by a hacker at some point. I've restored your account and deleted that link; once the site has been cleaned up, you're welcome to replace the link. "
Thanks

What Should an SEO Guarantee?

A topic often debated in SEO forums is that of what exactly an SEO should guarantee. To quote Google “Beware of SEOs that claim to guarantee rankings, allege a “special relationship” with Google or advertise a “priority submit” to Google. There is no priority submit for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever.” More….

Google also suggest you should be wary of an SEO who “guarantees ranking, but only on obscure, long keyword phrases that you would get anyway“. This one is used all the time.
If you want to check how much competition a search phrase really has ignore the number quoted when you carry out a simple search, instead put the search term in quotes like this “my search term”. You could also add the intitle operator to find pages that use the phrase in their title, often considered a more accurate measure of exactly how many pages are chasing a phrase, like this - intitle:”my search term”.

For example I recently saw an SEO demonstrating their ability by shouting about ranking number one in Google for the search phrase professional seo advice. They claimed there are over 2 million competing pages. In fact even on an open search there are only 340,000 pages. If you narrow the search down using quotes that drops to 1,120 pages and if you add the intitle: operator it drops to 55 pages.

It wouldn’t be much of a claim to shout about being number one in Google for a search phrase with only 55 competing pages. It actually gets worse, the phrase has virtually no search volume so it’s not worth ranking for anyway.
But I digress. If an SEO can’t guarantee rankings what can they guarantee? Here’s a list for starters.

Remove technical barriers stopping pages from being indexed
Ensure pages are well formed and use key SEO elements correctly
Carry out keyword research to create an understanding of your market
Install analytics software and help you interpret the results
Provide a link building strategy for your site
Work with you to get the most from your site
Work on reducing bounce rates
Work on increasing enquiries
Write relevant content

Be realistic about what can be achieved and when
There are many things an SEO can guarantee even if they can’t guarantee rankings. Make sure you ask the right questions and treat the hiring of an seo just like any other professional service. If in doubt walk, if it sounds too good to be true it will be.

"I just don't understand Twitter."
That is the reply I get most often when I talk about Twitter to friends and family. "What is Twitter?" they will ask. And when I explain the basics of how Twitter operates, they ask, "Why would anyone use it?"

It's actually a pretty good question.
Twitter is a Miniature Blog
Micro-blogging is defined as a quick update usually containing a very limited number of characters. It is a popular features of social networks like Facebook where you can update your status, but it has become best known because of Twitter.

In essence, micro-blogging is for people who want a blog but don't want to blog. A personal blog can keep people informed on what is going on in your life, but not everyone wants to spend an hour crafting a beautiful post about the vibrant colors seen on a butterfly spotted in the front time. Sometimes, you just want to say "went shopping for a new car but didn't find anything" or "watched Dancing With the Stars and Warren Sapp sure can dance."

That's where Twitter comes into the picture. It's a great place for keeping people informed on what you are up to without the need to spend a lot of time crafting an entire post on the subject. You just say what's up and leave it at that.

Twitter is Social Messaging
While Twitter may have started as a micro-blogging service, it is grown into much more than simply a tool to type in quick status updates. I often describe Twitter as a cross between blogging and instant messaging, but even that doesn't do it justice.

Twitter is social messaging. With the ability to follow people and have followers, and the ability to have interact with Twitter on your cell phone, Twitter has become the perfect social messaging tool. Whether you are out on the town and want to coordinate with a group of people as to what hot spot to hit next, or keeping people informed of developments at a company-sponsored event, Twitter is a great tool for quickly communicating a message to a group of people.

Twitter is News Reporting
Turn on CNN, Fox News or any other news-reporting service and you'll likely see a news ticker streaming across the bottom of the television set. In a digital world that is relying on the Internet more and more for news, that streaming ticker is Twitter.

Outdoor festivals like the South-by-Southwest festival in Austin, TX and major events like the E3 conference have shown what a great resource Twitter can be for quickly reporting news to a huge group of people. Faster and more immediate than a blog, Twitter has been embraced by the "new media" of the blogosphere and has slowly won acceptance among traditional media outlets.

Twitter is Social Media Marketing
Twitter has become a favorite target for social media marketing. This new form of getting the message out has been used effectively by Barak Obama during his Presidential campaign, and is used by everyone from magazines to movie stars as a quick way to connect with an audience.
With utilities like Twitterfeed, it is easy to convert an RSS feed into Twitter updates. This makes it easy to use Twitter as a form of social media marketing.

What is Twitter?
This brings us back to the original question. What is Twitter? It is many different things to many different people. It can be used by a family to keep in touch, or a company to coordinate business, or the media to keep people informed or a writer to build up a fan base.
Twitter is micro-blogging. It is social messaging. It is an event coordinator, a business tool, a news reporting service and a marketing utility.
There. That wasn't so hard, was it?

Unless you've been living under a rock and/or you're a Luddite you've at least heard of Twitter. And unless you're Ashton Kutcher you'd like more followers!

Last week I wrote a post called Twitter vs. Facebook where I recommended a product called Twitter Traffic Machine. It's an awesome product but it costs a bit of money so I thought I'd introduce you to a Twitter Tool that you can get started with for free.

It's called TwitterHIT and it's free to get started. With TwitterHIT you can find friends and followers fast on Twitter and it's totally automated.
Here's a short description of Twitter from About.com:

For Fox Ache Cover the SEO Basics!

We are lucky enough to receive many requests for SEO reviews. Sadly, and with monotonous regularity, we are asked to review sites that simply don’t cover the basics.

Perhaps it’s because the web industry is awash with so called web experts who simply don’t understand even the most elementary rules of creating search friendly web pages. What’s even sadder is the fact that covering the basics is so easy.

There are many posts dealing with SEO basics in this blog and several easy to follow SEO check lists. However in the interests of helping you to make sure your site has a chance of ranking here goes again.

Make sure ALL pages have a unique title element that describes the content of the page.If you don’t do this search engines find it difficult to ‘understand’ what your page is about. Creating good page title elements is one of the first things an SEO would do so don’t take any short cuts with them. Research your market, understand the keywords it uses and incorporate these keywords in your page title’s making sure the title reads naturally.

All pages should have a unique, carefully c0nsidered title element. If you don’t get this right it’s like writing a great book but leaving the cover plain and white with no clue about its contents.HINT – 70 characters is plenty long enough in my view.

Write compelling meta description elements for each page.Think of these as a short overview of the page’s content. Make them compelling so if people see them in a search result they click the link to your website. It makes sense to use keywords but don’t just write a string of keywords, make them read naturally.HINT – 150 characters is plenty long enough

Use your HTML headers correctly. Save the H1 element for the main title of your page and use other H elements for sub titles and sub sub titles.Perhaps assume the person reading the page doesn’t speak your language but needs to extract the important key information.
There, three VERY basic things you can do to help your site perform better. If you are about to commision a site make sure your developer guarantees you can edit and control these KEY SEO elements.

The 12 Most Powerful Words To Use In Marketing
Posted on June 19, 2009 by rhondagessner
The truth about web copywriting…the better you are at communicating with your audience, the more effective you will be as a marketer. Online marketing is all about communication so I thought I would share some copywriting tips.

Most people buy for emotional reasons so don’t try to appeal to logic. And people online do not want to get sold to…they detest overly hyped language. If web visitors ever do get “sold” on something, they first want to be finessed – not bombarded by blatant advertising. You must have compelling content and position yourself as the expert.

The following 12 words have been proven to be the highest converting words when it comes to web copy. This list is from one of my mentors, Eben Pagan. So here they are:

1. YOU
2. MONEY
3. SAVE
4. NEW
5. EASY
6. LOVE
7. DISCOVERY
8. RESULTS
9. HEALTH
10. PROVEN
11. GUARANTEE
12. FREE
